This December we were invited to the Frosted Fairground at Dreamland in Margate.  I was really excited when they got in touch. Dreamland at Christmas is pretty much everything I love in life – sugar, Christmas, vintage rides, arcade machines, sugar, retro themes, Christmas music, sugar…

I actually wrote about Dreamland, when it re-opened in Summer 2015.  I visited with Finley and my sister. We had a good time but you can really tell how it has improved over the last year.

It’s much better now that you can enter the entire place for free and just go on what you want by paying per ride. They don’t skimp on your ride time and if you have the unlimited wristbands and there’s not much of a queue you can stay on and go again straight away.

Plus they now have this really cool soft play/ cafe area for under 8’s called the Octopus Garden.

Yes I did just say “really cool soft play area” ….

But I shit you not, it’s probably the best I’ve seen and I’ve seen a lot. Soft play centre’s are Finley’s favourite thing to do in the crappy weather and so for my sins we do them often.

It was just super cute and clean.

You know, you could take off your shoes and not step in a wee puddle.

There were little sand pits, slides, a shop and a dressing up area. And whilst he played, we got to sit in our own little beach hut and drink Diet Coke and eat cake.

After that we headed into the arcade. Where Finley won a gazillion keyrings in the 2p slot machines and I only topped up his £1 pot once. I’m now the proud owner of a slightly deformed plastic pink seahorse.

In there they also have a really retro roller disco area, it wasn’t open but it looked really cool. You can grab a milkshake and head straight through to the sea front if you wanted you.

We booked a time slot to see Father Christmas, which would normally cost £9.95 per child. I have to say that it was a disappointment. They all seemed to have the right idea, on the surface it looked good. They had the stage set for Elves work shop and they had a little game to play about collecting baubles.

However, the organisation and time management were a bit crap. Which meant we were subjected to about twenty minutes of stalling and awkward Christmas small talk.

One of the Elves broke character at one point and got a bit exasperated. I got the impression he kind of wanted to punch his co-worker in the jingle balls

I would have definitely Vlogged that part….

Anyway it wasn’t horrendous and didn’t ruin our day, the park is brilliant and the retro theme definitely on point. I’d recommend a visit to The Frosted Fairground at Dreamland in Margate.

That’s so funny about that elf! This took me back, as Dreamland was the Ben Bon Brothers, or something like that, when I was a teenager and it was THE place to go with your mates! I’m glad the elf didn’t ruin your day! Alison x #StayClassyMama

This looks and sounds like so much fun despite the Santa running late. I suspect if you had vlogged the jingle bells incident (or near incident) it would have been a highly watch clip 😉

Ooh this looks fun, although I would have liked to see the elf lose his sh*t, that would have been hilarious! Sounds like a great funfair though! #stayclassymama

I love places like this that have a throwback feel! Looks like you guys had a blast! Is it just my computer that has the pictures being viewed to the side rather than right side up? #Stayclassymama

Great picture. It looks like a film. I LOVE 2p slot machines. I would go just for them but I like the sound of the soft play area too. #stayclassymama

Love to see reviews as candid and honest as yours. Not only does it help your readers decide whether this would be a good destination for their families, but it provides constructive feedback for the fairground. #stayclassymama
