When we moved to our new house last year, it was in the middle of Summer and we only really had a few weeks before the weather started to turn. We moved into our little country cottage mid July and spent the rest of the Summer months living amongst boxes and flat pack furniture projects. By the time we managed to get ourselves sorted, we were in Autumn and rapidly approaching Christmas so everything inside the cottage was geared towards oranges and browns and reds and greens.
Since Spring I’ve really tried to brighten up the place a bit. We live in the Kent countryside and our garden is full of flowers and birds and bees. My favourite and probably the easiest way to bring a bit of the Summer inside is with simple meadow or garden flowers. Sometimes I take them from the garden itself, we had some amazing poppy’s and foxgloves appear last month. I also like to buy the cheaper flowers from shops like the rose and carnation sprays. But how else can you bring Summer inside?
Top Tips For Bringing Summer Inside
Garden Flowers – small posies in glass jars and enamel pitchers
Bright Light Curtains – swap heavy fabrics for light airy nets and voiles
Tropical Patterns – bright greens and foliage patterns
Succulents – like cactus provide colour and life inside
Change The Room- move furniture closer to windows and away from fireplaces and televisions
Mirrors – large mirrors will spread light in any room
Summer Pillows – in white and cream fabrics with large prints of insects and birds
